Frequently Asked Questions

When can I enroll at The Hangout?

You can enroll in afterschool care all year long! We understand that plans fall through and interests change which is why we do not close off our program at the start of the school year. Fill out the Enrollment Interest Form and a staff member will be in touch with you as soon as possible!

Do I need to create a ProCare account if I’ve already been to The Hangout PDX?

If you have previously attended our program and have a ProCare account you do not need to create another account with us. If you have a ProCare account and there is new information we need to know (i.e. medication changes, allergies, behavioral notes, etc…), please update your original account. You may contact us directly to help locate your login if needed. If you have not already registered your child on Procare please do so prior to their first day at The Hangout PDX:  ProCare Sign-Up

What days are you open for the Afterschool Arts Program?

We follow the Portland Public School’s (PPS) District Calendar. Any day that PPS is in session, our Afterschool Arts Program is running as normal! All In-Service Days, Early Release Days, and Holidays must be booked separately via our Single Day Art Camps page. These days are not included in the cost of Afterschool Care tuition and run longer than normal Afterschool Care.

What schools do you offer afterschool pickup from?

We pickup from Glencoe, Richmond, Sunnyside, Le Monde, and Atkinson Elementary schools in our Kool Bus!

We do have families who join us from homeschool and other public/private schools in the area, as well. Parents/Guardians will drop off their kids directly at our program.

What will my kid do at The Hangout?

We are a K-5 Visual Arts Program focusing on filling in the gaps that the state’s poor funding for the arts has created in our schools. Our classes, taught by professionally trained artists and art educators, explore a myriad of artmaking practices in the fine arts including painting, illustration, sculpture, pottery, mixed-media and more!

When we are not making art, our students are building blocks and life-size forts in the playspace, reading books and playing board games in the cozy corner, or playing make-believe in our indoor treehouse. And yes, sometimes do homework!

Does my kid need to be a Hangout Student to join Date Nights?

Nope! Date Nights are open to all 3 - 11 year-old kiddos to enjoy a night off from their adults. No prior enrollment in our afterschool program is necessary! To signup, head on over to our Date Nights page and enroll.

What about Early Release and In-Service Days?

Nope! Early Release and In-Service Days at The Hangout are open to all families. No previous enrollment in our program(s) required! To learn more about Early Release and In-Service Days, check out Single Day Art Camps!

What is your cancellation policy for Art Camps (Summer Camp, In-Service Days, Early Release Days)?

Cancellation requests received two (2) weeks, or more, prior to start at The Hangout PDX will receive full refund less a $25 per camp/class cancellation fee. Cancellation requests received less than two (2) weeks prior to start of camp will incur a 50% cancellation fee. No refunds on cancellation requests received one (1) week or less prior to start at The Hangout PDX.

Cancellation requests for normal afterschool programming must be received 30 days in advance of your child’s last day.

What does my child need to bring on Art Camp Days (Summer Camp, In-Service Days, Early Release Days)?

Please make sure to pack a sack lunch (for Summer Camp and In-Service Days, as well as on Early Release Days if your school does not offer lunch prior to afterschool pickup), a snack, and a full water bottle with your child. Additionally, please apply sunscreen on your child prior to coming to camp.
